Edinburg to Host MOU Signing Ceremony for Second Year of Bank on INT! Internship Program

Edinburg, Texas — The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC), in partnership with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), and participating regional banks, will host a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony on Friday, June 5, to officially kick off the second year of the Bank on INT! Internship Program.

Bank on INT! is a paid internship program designed to connect UTRGV students with local and regional banks, providing hands-on experience in the financial industry while supporting workforce development and talent retention in the Rio Grande Valley.

Through the program, selected students will intern with participating banks and earn $20 per hour while gaining valuable professional experience, mentorship, and exposure to careers in banking.

Now entering its second year, Bank on INT! continues to build on the success of its inaugural cohort by strengthening partnerships between higher education, local government, economic development organizations, and the financial sector.

“Bank on INT! is more than an internship program—it is an investment in the future workforce of our region,” said Raudel Garza, EEDC Executive Director. “By providing students with meaningful, hands-on experiences in the banking industry, we are helping them develop the skills, confidence, and professional networks needed to succeed in their careers. At the same time, we are strengthening the talent pipeline for our local employers and creating opportunities that encourage our brightest students to build their futures right here in the Rio Grande Valley.”

Participating financial institutions for the 2026 Bank on INT! cohort include Greater State Bank, Lone Star National Bank, Rio Bank, Texas National Bank, and Vantage Bank. Through their partnership and investment in the program, students will gain direct exposure to the banking industry while developing valuable professional skills and workplace experience.

In addition to the MOU signing, members of the second Bank on INT! cohort will be in attendance. The event will provide students with an opportunity to network with banking professionals, community leaders, and program partners as they prepare to begin their summer internships. The networking component further supports the program’s mission of connecting students with career pathways and strengthening relationships between higher education and the regional business community.

The program supports the development of future banking professionals while providing participating financial institutions with an opportunity to mentor and cultivate local talent. Through direct industry exposure, students gain practical knowledge that complements their academic coursework and prepares them for long-term career success.

The MOU Signing Ceremony will recognize the continued commitment of program partners and celebrate the launch of the next cohort of interns. Representatives from participating banks, UTRGV, the City of Edinburg, and the EEDC will be in attendance.
