EDINBURG, Texas– The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation is celebrating Economic Development Week in Edinburg to showcase community businesses and its economy.

Economic Development Week begins Monday, May 9 and continues through Friday, May 13, 2022. During this week, communities across North America partner with local organizations to provide business owners in their area with resources on programs available that create jobs, advance career development opportunities, and improve quality of life.

The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation and the city of Edinburg provide leadership and excellence in economic development through Business Retention and Expansion programs, training courses, advisory services and research, downtown revitalization, economic support, and initiatives such as Made in Edinburg and workforce training programs.

In 2021 and 2022, $2.2 million aimed at small business recovery was invested during the COVID-19 pandemic through the ‘Stimulus Program Aimed at Recovery’ initiative, also known as SPARC 3.0, the SPARC Home-Based Business Program, and the SPARC Facade Improvement Program.

“We’re investing a lot of money in downtown, that’s where the main focus is right now, but there’s a lot of other businesses coming that want to move here and they’re choosing Edinburg first now because our housing market is booming and we have all the land that you can imagine,” Hiren Govind, President of the Edinburg EDC Board, says. “We are a city that welcomes anybody and everybody.”

The city of Edinburg is the 12th fastest growing city in the country and the 6th fastest growing in the state of Texas of those with over 100,000 residents. It is home to over 2,300 businesses and during Fiscal Year 2021, 900 jobs were committed and retained. In addition, $175 million and 250,000 square feet was committed through private investment.

The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation will kick off Economic Development Week with the Made in Edinburg/Hecho en Edinburg campaign that launches Monday, May 9 – a push aimed at highlighting businesses that have based and launched their products in the city and serve as a gateway to the rest of the world.

In addition, the EDC will host the Elements of Business Planning workshop at the Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance Conference Center on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in partnership with the UTRGV Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center, as well as a Business Resources presentation from 3:00PM to 4:00PM with the U.S. Small Business Administration, the UTRGV Small Business Development Center, and the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. Anyone interested in attending the workshop can RSVP to economicdevelopment@cityofedinburg.com.

On the final day of the week, Friday, May 13, participants can expect a video highlighting the Edinburg Economic Development Board of Directors to close off Economic Development Week. To stay up to date, visit https://edinburgedc.com and the Edinburg Economic Development Facebook page.
